Product variants
Spectrum Filament SafeGuard PLA 1.75mm 1kg is an advanced antibacterial PLA-based filament that actively protects 3D print surfaces against bacteria, viruses, biofilm, and mold. According to tests based on the ISO 22196 standard, the material is more than 99.9% more hygienic than standard PLA.
Key features
SafeGuard PLA combines the easy printability of classic PLA with lasting antibacterial protection. Its effectiveness has been verified against the two most common bacterial strains - E. coli and Staphylococcus. Unlike traditional solutions based on copper or silver, this material retains its protective properties long term and does not lose them over time.
The filament is 100% biocide-free, meaning it contains no chemical substances that could leach out of the material. The technology is fully integrated into the polymer matrix, which prevents migration of active substances and reduces the risk of bacterial resistance. The material is non-toxic, safe for everyday use, and suitable for objects requiring a high level of hygiene.

Who is Spectrum Filament SafeGuard PLA 1.75mm 1kg suitable for
This filament is designed for printing objects that come into contact with environments requiring enhanced hygiene. It is ideal for producing kitchen accessories, handles, doorknobs, switches, holders, medical aids, and items for offices, schools, or public spaces. It also excels in printing decorations and accessories for aquariums, where it significantly limits the growth of algae and biofilm.
The material is suitable for both home users and professional operations that require reliable, long-term protection against microorganisms. Responsibility for specific applications and any additional testing in high-risk environments lies with the user.
Usage tips
- Print with active cooling at 100% to achieve sharp details and high-quality overhangs.
- Before printing, we recommend drying the filament at 45 °C for 6 - 8 hours, especially after longer storage.
- The material prints similarly to standard PLA - no enclosed chamber or high-temperature heated bed is required.
- For items intended for food contact or environments with high hygiene requirements, perform your own testing and validation of the final product.
- Store in a dry place, ideally in a sealed package with a moisture absorber, so the filament retains optimal printing properties.
- For a cleaner print surface, keep the print speed within the recommended range and do not exceed 60 mm/s.
