The Original Prusa XL with two tool heads is a next-generation large-format 3D printer with a 360×360×360 mm build volume and a lightning-fast toolchanger. It combines the top-notch print quality of the MK4 model with virtually waste-free multi-material printing. The assembled version is ready for immediate use - just unbox, calibrate and print.

Toolchanger - the heart of the XL printer

The toolchanger is the key technology of the XL model. In this version, you have two independent tool heads that swap in an instant. You can simultaneously combine two different materials or colors without a lengthy filament change process. The system is also modular - you can expand the setup to up to five print heads at any time in the future and grow along with your projects.

Waste-free printing

While common multi-material printers with a single nozzle must purge the nozzle with every material change and produce kilograms of waste, the XL was designed differently from the ground up. Each head has its own nozzle, so purging is eliminated. With properly dried filaments and nozzle purging into the object's infill, you can print literally waste-free - no wipe towers, no filament strings around the printer.

Segmented heatbed

The unique modular heatbed consists of 16 individually controlled tiles that compensate for the thermal deformation typical of large single-piece beds. The result is perfect adhesion across the entire 360×360 mm surface and the ability to turn off unused tiles to save energy. The heatbed has its own control board and is compatible with the proven double-sided Prusa print sheets.

Perfect first layer thanks to the Loadcell sensor

No more turning screws and fine-tuning offsets in software. The Loadcell sensor in each head physically measures the distance between the nozzle and the sheet with unmatched precision - regardless of whether you use a smooth, textured or satin surface. Optical methods fail on reflective surfaces, but the Loadcell doesn't. The first layer sits perfectly every time, anywhere on the print sheet.

High-speed printing with Input Shaper

Native implementation of Input Shaper and Pressure Advance delivers a dramatic increase in print speed without loss of quality. The XL handles complex multi-material prints faster than any other desktop printer on the market. Phase Stepping technology additionally measures motor response and adjusts the control signal so the printer is exceptionally quiet - if you need even more silence, activate Stealth Mode.

Compatibility with all materials

The direct-drive Nextruder handles the entire range of filaments - from basic PLA and PETG, through technical ASA, ABS and nylon, to polycarbonate or filaments filled with carbon fibers. The direct-drive design makes printing flexible materials a breeze. For materials sensitive to drafts, the official Original Prusa Enclosure can be purchased separately.

Smart material combinations

With two heads, you can print truly meaningfully - combine rigid PETG with flexible TPU, print expensive PC-CF with supports made of cheap PLA, or use soluble supports for complex geometries. The PrusaSlicer has profiles ready for the XL, and Spool Join also allows uninterrupted continuation of printing even after a spool runs out - load two 2kg spools and let the printer produce a 4kg model without a single intervention.

Prusa Connect and network printing

The XL offers both wired and Wi-Fi connectivity and full integration with Prusa Connect. Drag a G-code into your browser and start printing within seconds - from anywhere. Schedule print jobs, monitor progress via webcam, check print history. If you don't want network functions, the printer works 100% offline without limitations. The color touchscreen LCD and physical rotary knob give you a choice of how to control the printer.

Power loss recovery

Large prints take hours and a power outage could mean disaster. The XL has an integrated Power Panic function - upon power loss, it saves the last extruder position and, after power is restored, smoothly resumes where it left off. It also works for network prints. Filament jam detection and the Cancel Object function from the printer menu further increase operational reliability.

Long-term support and development

Prusa Research supports its printers for years after market launch and adds essential features through firmware updates. The MK3S+ received updates for over six years, the MINI got Input Shaper after four years. The XL has already received Input Shaper, Pressure Advance, Phase Stepping, Prusa Connect, Cancel Object, filament jam detection and more. The printer is open-source and vendor lock-in free - use any 1.75mm filament from any manufacturer.
