Waste-free printing
A 3D printer is just the beginning: you’ll need more and more spools of filament… and the Original Prusa XL is thankfully here to help you reduce operating costs by cutting down on printing waste! Every printer with a single extruder must clean the nozzle of leftover filament each time the color or material changes. For many printers on the market, the volume of waste filament can often be up to four times greater than the weight of the printed object itself.
We designed the XL from the ground up to be able to print with several materials at once efficiently, extremely fast, and with zero-to-near-zero waste. During normal printing, a small purge tower is usually still needed to stabilize pressure in the nozzle, but with properly dried filaments and the ability to purge into the infill of the printed object, the XL can even print completely waste-free! No purge towers, no strings of filament from nozzle cleaning scattered around the printer!
Combine materials
With multiple toolheads you can prepare several materials for printing at the same time and then easily combine them during a single print. For example, you can combine Flex with PETG and use PLA as easily removable supports. And if your project requires advanced and expensive materials such as PCCF, you can use a cheaper material for supports, reducing your overall costs.

XL Tool Changer
The toolchanger is the heart of the Original Prusa XL. Thanks to it, you can have up to five materials prepared and print multi-material objects faster than ever before. And because the filaments are already pre-loaded in the nozzles, the entire lengthy filament-changing process is eliminated. The toolchanger swaps toolheads in an instant, and thanks to the optimized mechanical design, its reliability is unmatched. You can load up to five 2kg spools into the XL and print a 10kg object without touching the printer even once.
Spool Join – print without interruption!
Spool Join is a feature that automatically switches to the next spool when the current spool runs out during printing. It is ideal for using up leftovers of “almost empty” spools, but you can also use it, for example, to start a massive project with uninterrupted printing: prepare the printer with up to five 2kg spools, enable the Spool Join function, and you can produce a huge 10kg model without a single user intervention.
Exceptional print quality and reliability
Printing fast but poorly is pointless – the Original Prusa XL fortunately maintains top-tier print quality anywhere on the print sheet while also handling multi-material printing much faster than any other desktop printer on the market. The Nextruder delivers exceptional performance, especially on extremely steep overhangs – up to 15°, and easily handles flex filaments as well. And the printer’s excellent accuracy ensures that you can print parts that fit together perfectly.

Achieve unparalleled precision with the Original Prusa XL! We have tuned the print profiles so that you can design precise parts and work with 0.2mm accuracy. When you need to add a specific component, like an M3 screw, into your design, you know you can rely on the XL’s print accuracy.
Pleasantly Quiet
The printer equipped with Phase Stepping technology precisely measures the response characteristics of its motors and automatically adjusts their control signal so that the printer runs as quietly as possible. Simply put: the Original Prusa XL is indeed very fast, but also pleasantly quiet, so you can let it print right next to your desk and continue working without being disturbed by noise. You no longer need to worry about adjusting the distance between the nozzle and the print sheet, nor do you need to calculate whether you’ll run out of filament halfway through the print. The Original Prusa XL is easy to use and maintain, and it comes with a detailed manual that guides you through all aspects of multi-material printing.
Perfect First Layer Out of the Box
Say goodbye to complicated nozzle-to-bed tuning – no software adjustments, no screws. The XL will always produce a perfect first layer, anywhere on the entire area of its heated bed. It doesn’t matter what kind of print surface you use – the Loadcell sensor will always precisely measure the distance, unaffected by reflective or textured surfaces. The sensor does not rely on optical methods, providing unmatched accuracy on any type of print sheet.
Handles Any Type of Filament
It doesn’t matter whether your project requires printing with PLA or PETG, ASA, or even carbon-fiber-reinforced materials – the XL can handle any filament with ease! Including flexible filaments! And thanks to the direct-drive Nextruder, printing flexible materials is easier than ever before. Most materials do not require an enclosed print chamber, but for those that do, the Original Prusa Enclosure is available.
Wi-Fi and Prusa Connect
The Original Prusa XL printer offers both wired and wireless connectivity. This allows you to control it from anywhere using our secure and encrypted Prusa Connect system. Simply drag a G-code file into the browser window and just a few seconds after the upload starts, you can begin printing. Prusa Connect offers a wide range of options – for example scheduling print jobs or remotely monitoring the print progress using a webcam.
Color Touch LCD Display
Pick your favorite way to control the XL! You can either use the physical knob for tactile feedback or the ever-so-popular touchscreen panel. The color LCD provides you with easy-to-navigate menus and simple-to-follow instructions, and with features such as G-code previews, QR codes, Cancel Object functionality and many other useful improvements, using the XL is a joy!
Unique Segmented Heated Bed
The XL is equipped with a modular segmented heated bed controlled by its own mainboard, which pushes the reliability and print quality of the XL even further. The bed consists of 16 individually controlled tiles designed to compensate for thermal deformation that often occurs with printers that use one large heated bed. Together with our proven double-sided print sheets, you always have the best possible surface available for printing your materials. Additionally, it can switch off unused tiles to save energy.
Power-Loss Recovery
Large prints usually take several hours even when using Input Shaper technology. But you don’t have to worry about power outages! The XL has a built-in power-loss recovery function. In case of a power drop, the printer saves the last extruder position so it can continue as soon as the power is restored. This function works even with network prints!
Long-Term Support
We release new updates for our printers even several years after they enter the market. These updates add new, often essential features that change the way printing works. The MK3S+ received firmware updates for more than six years. The Original Prusa MINI, four years after its release, received a major update including Input Shaper, which doubled its printing speed.
Designed for Offline Use
The Original Prusa XL is designed to operate offline without any compromises. If you do not wish to use network services, you don’t have to. The printer can be fully controlled without internet access, and its functionality is not limited or restricted in any way.
