Product variants
Spectrum Smart ABS is an improved version of the classic ABS filament that retains high mechanical durability while eliminating the typical drawbacks of standard ABS material - it reduces shrinkage, volatile emissions and simplifies the printing process itself.
Key features
Smart ABS has been developed to combine the proven mechanical properties of ABS with improved printing parameters. The material retains high impact resistance and rigidity while showing a significantly lower deformation ratio (0.5-0.7%) than standard ABS. The resulting prints have a glossy outer surface and very good dimensional accuracy. The material retains its mechanical properties even at temperatures down to -40 °C, which predestines it for use in demanding conditions.
- High impact resistance and mechanical rigidity
- Reduced shrinkage ratio (0.5-0.7%) compared to classic ABS
- Glossy print surface
- Lower printing temperature and increased flow
- HDT 85 °C and VICAT 93 °C
- Low moisture absorption
- Good interlayer adhesion
- Easy mechanical processing (sanding, drilling, cutting)
- Surface can be smoothed with acetone vapor

Who is Spectrum Smart ABS 1.75 mm 1 kg filament for
Smart ABS is designed for users who need functional and mechanically durable parts but also want to avoid typical ABS printing problems - warping, cracking and excessive odor. It is suitable for producing electronics housings, protective enclosures and impact-resistant parts, industrial design, prototyping, tool making, handles, gauges and custom components. Thanks to its low moisture absorption and stability across a wide temperature range, it is also suitable for functional parts intended for long-term use. The material's properties predestine Smart ABS for more advanced users; an alternative for beginners can be PLA or PETG.
Tips for use
- Use a printer with an enclosed chamber to minimize deformation and layer delamination.
- We recommend treating the bed with glue, ABS juice or a special adhesive layer.
- Keep fan cooling to a minimum - ideally off or up to 20%.
- If needed, dry the material before printing at 65-70 °C for 4-6 hours.
- For a perfectly smooth surface, use acetone vapor smoothing.
- Print in a well-ventilated room, even though Smart ABS produces significantly fewer emissions than standard ABS.
- Store the spool after printing in a sealed package with a moisture absorber.
- For the first layer, use a lower print speed (20-30 mm/s) for better bed adhesion.
