Spectrum HIPS-X is a specialized support material for FDM/FFF 3D printing, fully soluble in D-limonene. It is used primarily as a support for ABS parts, but thanks to its high impact resistance and matte surface, it is also suitable as a full-fledged building material.
Key features
HIPS-X (High Impact Polystyrene) stands out with high impact toughness and the ability to absorb and dissipate energy. Compared to standard ABS, it exhibits a lower shrinkage rate, which makes printing larger parts easier. The material is fully soluble in D-limonene, which allows supports to be gently removed after printing without any mechanical intervention on the model. Thermal resistance reaches HDT B 88 °C, the Vicat softening temperature is 96 °C. The surface of printed objects is matte with reduced visibility of individual layers. Low hardness allows easy mechanical processing - sanding, drilling, milling and turning.

Who is Spectrum filament HIPS-X 1.75mm 1kg suitable for
HIPS-X will be appreciated especially by users who print complex geometries from ABS and need a reliable soluble support material for dual-extruder printers. It finds use in industrial applications requiring impact-resistant components or parts capable of partial energy dissipation. It is also suitable for printing concepts, functional prototypes, packaging, artistic objects or sculptural works, where the matte surface and the option of further mechanical processing are valued.
Printing tips
- Print in an enclosed chamber - this reduces drafts and the risk of layer delamination.
- To remove supports from ABS, use a D-limonene bath; dissolution is accelerated by gentle stirring and higher temperature (up to approx. 40 °C).
- Use a print bed treated with glue, ABS spray or PEI for reliable first-layer adhesion.
- We recommend drying the filament before printing - HIPS is slightly hygroscopic.
- Keep part cooling to a minimum, otherwise reduced interlayer strength may occur.
- For maximum dimensional accuracy of large parts, maintain a stable ambient temperature.
- After printing, the surface can be further modified by sanding or milling; the material polishes well.
