Spectrum ASA Kevlar Thread
High resistance in manufacturing applications
Spectrum ASA Kevlar thread is a technical composite material based on the combination of ASA copolymer and aramid fibers. The creation of composite materials by combining materials aims to impart new properties that the individual components did not previously achieve. As the base of the composite, we used ASA copolymer, which is known for its high resistance to weather conditions, and by combining it with aramid, we obtained some of the strongest synthetic fibers.
Aramid fibers, primarily known as Kevlar, are used to manufacture items highly resistant to damage, such as bulletproof vests, helmets, and speaker membranes. When stressed, aramid fibers do not crack (like glass and carbon fibers), but they undergo shear fracture and tearing, which leads to their high resistance to damage.
Aramid itself is a material with low resistance to UV radiation, encapsulation, and its special protection in the ASA polymer, which is highly resistant to this factor, ensures the long life of the fibers and the entire composite. Kevlar fibers exhibit significantly lower nozzle abrasiveness compared to carbon and glass fibers, which is not insignificant for the printing process costs. The use of fibrous structures results in reduced material shrinkage during printing, allowing the production of large models.
With our new Spectrum ASA Kevlar thread, 3D printing technology also finds its use. Elements printed from Spectrum ASA Kevlar material can be used in applications requiring resistance to sunlight and high impact strength (e.g., stoppers, protectors, etc.). Thanks to the content of aramid fibers, the outer surface of the prints is rougher, making them more matte and thus more aesthetic than classic ASA.
