The Shining3D Einstar is a portable handheld 3D scanner with infrared VCSEL structured light that can scan even outdoors in direct sunlight up to 100,000 lux. It digitizes dark, glossy, and hairy surfaces without matting spray, and thanks to a built-in RGB camera it captures a full-color texture together with 3D geometry - all in a single pass. Accuracy of up to 0.1 mm and a field of view of 434 × 379 mm make the Einstar an ideal tool for reverse engineering, digitizing artworks, bodywork jobs, and 3D archiving.

Scanning outdoors and in direct sunlight

Shining3D Einstar - portable 3D scanner with VCSEL light

The infrared VCSEL structured light is resistant to ambient lighting up to 100,000 lux, which corresponds to direct sunlight at noon. You can scan statues, facades, cars, or archaeological finds directly on-site without the need for shading, tents, or a night mode. The logistics of moving large objects into a studio are eliminated.

Full-color textures in real time

Einstar full-color texture from RGB camera

The built-in RGB camera captures color texture together with geometry, so the resulting model is colored immediately after the scan is complete. There is no need to additionally photograph the object or map the texture manually in post-processing. Ideal for digitizing art objects, faces, or presentation models.

Handles dark, glossy, and hairy surfaces

Einstar scanning glossy and dark surfaces without spray

VCSEL technology with infrared wavelength can read even black plastics, painted metal, dark rubber, or human hair - surfaces that classic scanners with white structured light struggle with. In most cases you can do without matting spray, which saves time and protects sensitive or artistic surfaces.

Large field of view - big objects fast

Einstar large field of view 434 x 379 mm for fast scanning

A single-scan field of view of 434 × 379 mm at an optimal distance of 400 mm enables fast coverage of large areas. Scanning an entire car, motorcycle, piece of furniture, or human body is a matter of minutes, not hours. The working distance of 160-1,400 mm provides flexibility when working in tight spaces as well as with large objects.

Accuracy up to 0.1 mm

Single-scan accuracy reaches up to 0.1 mm, which is top-tier performance for a handheld scanner in this price range. You get data usable for reverse engineering, quality control, 3D printing preparation, and digital twin creation. Models can easily be further edited in CAD software and printed, for example, from durable PETG or technical ASA.

Speed up to 14 FPS and ~980,000 points/s

The scanner generates up to 14 frames per second with a performance of approximately 980,000 points per second. This means a smooth real-time preview in the EXScan software and quick completion of even extensive projects. The live preview helps you immediately spot any gaps and rescan them without leaving your workflow.

EXScan software free of charge - Windows and macOS

The bundled EXScan software (free) runs natively on Windows and macOS and offers a complete workflow from capture through automatic alignment and mesh generation to export. Supported formats are OBJ, STL, PLY, P3, and 3MF - compatible with all common slicers, CAD, and 3D graphics programs.

Portable, lightweight, USB connection

The design is optimized for ergonomics - you hold the scanner in one hand and connect it via standard USB 2.0. You don't need a power adapter or an external calibration table; a laptop is enough for fieldwork. A compact carrying case protects the scanner during transfers between jobs.

Package contents

Shining3D Einstar package contents

The package includes complete equipment for starting work immediately:

  • Shining3D Einstar 3D scanner
  • USB 2.0 cable
  • Calibration board
  • Set of marker points
  • Carrying case / bag

Our tip: If you plan to scan extremely glossy, transparent, or completely black surfaces, we recommend using a temporary matte scanning spray - it eliminates reflections and evaporates on its own after a few hours without leaving any traces. The scanned data can then be printed directly from PLA for presentation models or from Nylon for functional prototypes.
