Spectrum LW - ASA UltraFoam TRAFFIC filament is a professional technical material combining the UV and weather resistance of ASA with advanced active foaming technology. It enables up to a 3x weight reduction of printed parts without compromising strength or surface quality.

Key features

The filament is based on the proven ASA 275 formulation, enriched with additives enabling controlled expansion during printing. The foaming process is activated at around 230 °C, with maximum effect in the 270-285 °C range. Below 230 °C, the material behaves like standard ASA 275, providing great flexibility when fine-tuning settings.

In its fully foamed state, the material expands up to three times its original volume and reaches an extremely low density of approximately 0.33 g/cm3. Material flow can be reduced by up to 66%, achieving a weight reduction of up to 34% compared to traditional ASA, or up to 3x in extreme cases. The matte and rough surface effectively hides layer lines and gives the part a professional appearance.

The filament retains all the key properties of ASA - high UV resistance, dimensional stability and mechanical strength.

Who is Spectrum LW - ASA UltraFoam TRAFFIC filament for

The filament is an ideal choice for projects where every gram counts - RC modeling, drone construction, lightweight functional components and outdoor technical applications. Thanks to its high resistance to UV and weather conditions, it is suitable for exterior parts, housings, holders and prototypes exposed to climatic conditions. The higher yield (one spool covers up to three spools of standard ASA) makes it an economically advantageous solution for series production of lightweight parts.

Usage tips

  • For maximum foaming effect, use a print temperature between 270-285 °C.
  • The degree of foaming and part density can be precisely controlled by changing the print temperature.
  • Reduce the material flow accordingly - typically by 30-66% depending on the required density.
  • Use thicker layers or full perimeters with a single wall to speed up printing.
  • Before printing, we recommend drying the filament at 70-80 °C for 4-6 hours.
  • Printing in an enclosed chamber limits deformation and improves interlayer adhesion.
  • For first layer adhesion, use a heated bed at 90-110 °C and glue or ABS juice.
  • Test the material expansion on a small sample - foaming may slightly affect the final part dimensions.
