Product variants
Bambu Lab PLA Aero is a specialty foaming PLA filament designed for printing extremely lightweight parts. At elevated printing temperatures, the material foams internally and creates microscopic voids, achieving significantly lower print density while maintaining good mechanical properties.
Key features
Bambu Lab PLA Aero belongs to the foaming variants of PLA filaments, which reduce print density to 50-80 % compared to standard PLA. The material offers a matte surface with a fine texture that is easy to paint and provides better results during subsequent coloring than classic PLA Basic. Thanks to its foaming structure, prints are lightweight while remaining tough and resistant to impacts, drops, and collisions - significantly more so than pre-foaming Wood PLA. The filament has a diameter of 1.75 mm with a tolerance of +/- 0.03 mm and is supplied on a 1 kg spool. Thanks to the RFID chip, it is fully compatible with the Bambu Lab AMS system.

Who is Bambu Lab PLA Aero filament suitable for
PLA Aero is primarily intended for printing RC model airplanes, gliders, aerodynamic models, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs/drones), where low weight of the final part is essential. When printing the same model, a PLA Aero print weighs approximately half as much as one made from standard PLA Basic. Print density can be controlled by changing the nozzle temperature and flow rate ratio - higher temperature and lower flow rate result in greater foaming and lower density. The material is also suitable for printing decorative models with a matte surface ready for further painting.
Usage tips
- Always thoroughly dry the material before printing - PLA Aero is extremely sensitive to moisture (55 °C for 8 hours).
- Store in a sealed package with desiccant, keep ambient humidity below 20 % RH.
- For maximum foaming, print at 250-260 °C with a flow rate ratio around 0.35-0.45.
- The filament is relatively soft - occasional feeding issues may occur when used in the AMS.
- For consistent print density, tune parameters on a test sample - the result is affected by temperature, speed, model size, and wall thickness.
- Use a 0.4 mm hardened steel or stainless steel nozzle, avoid 0.2 mm nozzles.
- For better first-layer adhesion, we recommend applying Bambu Liquid Glue.
- Thanks to the RFID chip, the AMS automatically loads all optimal print parameters.
