Bambu Lab ASA Aero is a foaming ASA-based filament that combines the durability of classic ASA with ultra-low weight and controlled print density. Thanks to thermally controlled foaming, it achieves a density of only 50-75% compared to regular ASA, while maintaining high strength and resistance to UV radiation, water, and weather conditions.
Key features
ASA Aero is a self-foaming material designed primarily for printing lightweight yet mechanically resistant parts. Compared to other foaming filaments, it offers higher impact toughness (32.0 kJ/m²) and better interlayer adhesion (3.4 kJ/m² in the Z direction), which makes printed models more resistant to impacts, drops, and mechanical stress. The material retains the characteristic ASA resistance to UV radiation and weather conditions - heat deflection temperature (HDT) reaches 85 °C at 0.45 MPa, making it suitable for long-term outdoor use.
The degree of foaming can be regulated by print temperature and material flow ratio. At 220 °C it prints practically without foaming (density ~0.97 g/cm³), while at 280 °C it achieves maximum foaming with print density of only ~0.45 g/cm³. The surface of the prints has a matte structure, which is suitable for subsequent painting and surface finishing.

Who is Bambu Lab ASA Aero filament, 1kg suitable for
ASA Aero is designed for projects where low weight combined with mechanical durability and resistance to external environments is key. It is ideally suited for printing RC model aircraft, wings, fuselages, drones, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), where every gram matters. Thanks to its UV resistance and stability at higher temperatures, it is suitable for outdoor applications, prototypes exposed to weather, covers, holders, and functional parts intended for exterior use. The matte surface facilitates subsequent painting and surface finishing of models.
Printing tips
- Always dry the material thoroughly before printing - 80 °C for 8 hours. ASA Aero is extremely sensitive to moisture.
- During printing and storage, keep humidity below 20% RH (sealed packaging with desiccant).
- Use only enclosed printers - the material is prone to warping and releases odor during printing.
- To ensure adhesion to the bed, use glue (e.g. Bambu Liquid Glue or a glue stick).
- Recommended bed: Smooth PEI or Textured PEI.
- Printing large models with high infill density is not recommended - risk of warping.
- Regulate the degree of foaming and print density by combining print temperature and flow ratio - higher temperature = lower density.
- Use a 0.4 mm hardened steel nozzle; smaller (0.2 mm) or larger (0.6/0.8 mm) nozzles are not recommended.
- Ensure good ventilation of the workspace - odors may be released during printing.
