What is skirt in 3D printing?

A skirt is an outline around the model printed before the actual print begins. Doesn't touch the model. Serves to initially extrude filament and check first layer.

Purpose

  • Extrudes filament before the main print
  • Checks the first layer - you see if it sticks correctly
  • Stabilizes hotend temperature

Parameters

Typically 1-3 skirt lines, 3-6 mm from the model. Skirt vs. brim: skirt doesn't touch the model, brim does.
