What is polycarbonate (PC) filament?

Polycarbonate (PC) is the strongest common filament. Extremely tough, transparent, heat-resistant to ~130 °C. Demanding to print - high temperatures, enclosure required.

When to choose PC

When strength is priority #1: safety glasses, protective covers, bumpers, cosplay props that can't break. PC is the plastic choice for bulletproof glass.

Printing parameters

  • Nozzle: 270-310 °C
  • Bed: 100-130 °C
  • Enclosure: REQUIRED, heated
  • Cooling: 0-20 %
  • Speed: slow, 30-50 mm/s

Challenges

PC is hygroscopic like Nylon - must be dried. Needs heated enclosure (ideally 60+ °C), otherwise warping. Difficult on desktop printers.
