What is PLA filament?

PLA (Polylactic Acid) is the most popular filament for FDM 3D printing. Made from renewable sources (corn starch), it's biodegradable, easy to print and odor-free. Ideal for beginners and decorations.

Why PLA is so popular

PLA dominates among filaments thanks to low printing temperature (200-220 °C), no smell and minimal warping. Works without heated chamber. Available in hundreds of colors including special variants (silk, matte, glow, marble, wood, carbon-filled).

PLA printing parameters

  • Nozzle: 200-220 °C
  • Bed: 50-60 °C
  • Speed: 50-150 mm/s, Bambu Lab up to 500 mm/s
  • Cooling: 100 %
  • Enclosure: not needed

When to use PLA and when not

Use PLA for: figurines, models, decorations, prototypes, cosplay. Don't use PLA for: parts in a car (softens from ~55 °C), outdoor applications (UV degradation), mechanically stressed parts (choose PETG).
