What is overhang in 3D printing?

An overhang is a sloped surface of the model that is unsupported from below. At angles up to 45° any printer handles it without supports.

Angles and result

  • 0-30° - perfect quality
  • 30-45° - very good
  • 45-60° - detail degradation
  • 60-80° - need support

How to improve

Better cooling, slower speed, overhang detection in slicer.
