What is MSLA 3D printing?

MSLA (Masked SLA, also LCD printing) is the most widespread resin technology. Instead of laser it uses a UV LED panel + LCD display as mask. Cheapest SLA variant.

How MSLA works

UV LED under the vat shines constantly. LCD display creates a mask - passes light only where the layer should harden. A layer is done in seconds.

Advantages

  • Affordable - from ~$200
  • Fast - 2-4 s per layer
  • High resolution (4K, 8K, 12K displays)
  • Anycubic, Elegoo, Creality, Phrozen

Disadvantages

LCD display degrades over time - lifetime ~2000 print hours. Pixelation on small models. Smaller build volume than FDM.
