What is brim in 3D printing?
A brim is a thin „collar" around the first layer of the model. It increases contact area with the bed - prevents warping on tall or narrow parts.
When to use
- Tall narrow parts (towers, columns)
- Thin model legs
- ABS/ASA (warping prevention)
- Poorly adhesive materials
Parameters
Brim width: 5-10 mm (4-8 brim lines). After print, easily removed with a knife.
Brim vs. Raft
Brim = adds area around the model. Raft = whole plate under the model. Brim uses less material.
